About Organisation

Yalelo (U) Limited is a tilapia fish farm that was established in Uganda in 2019. The farm is located in Butembe, Buikwe district on the shores of Lake Victoria. Yalelo Uganda is a subsidiary of First Wave Group B.V; a Dutch company with a portfolio of aquaculture related assets in Africa. First Wave Group owns and operates Yalelo Zambia, a pioneer of Aquaculture founded in 2011 that has grown quickly to become the leading fish farm in Zambia and among the largest aquaculture farms in Africa.

Job Summary

The HSE Assistant will coordinate all HSE activities in liaison with the Officer to ensure that the company meets the necessary legislative obligations and drives the continuous improvement of a strong HSE culture throughout the business.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Assist in Planning and implementing Health, Safety, and environmental (HSE) policies and programs.

Provide advice to employees on safety-related topics.

Assist in developing and delivering regular educational and training sessions on HSE topics.

Collaborate with HR to establish a new employee onboarding process for safety, health

Assist in conducting risk assessments, identifying potential hazards, and establishing corrective actions.

Enforce preventative measures and ensure compliance with rules and regulations.

Prepare and present reports on SIOs, Near-misses, First-aid cases, incidents/accidents, violations, and their causes.

Ensure that all HSE-related records are entered into the H&S/E&S management systems daily.

Participate in development and delivery of toolbox talks on a weekly basis.

Oversee workplace repairs, installations, and any activities that could pose risks to employee safety.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience

Minimum of a Diploma in Environmental Management or a related field. Bachelor’s degree will be an added advantage.

Certificate in Occupational Health, Safety and Environment would be an added advantage.

Minimum of 2 years of experience in HSE related work.

Sufficient knowledge of legislations and procedures related to safety, health, and environment.

Familiarity with potentially hazardous materials and practices.

Proficiency in MS Office.

Outstanding organizational skills and ability to effectively work as part of a team.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Proactive problem-solver that can manage difficult situations with positive results.
