Job Summary

This UN Volunteer assignment will contribute to strengthening coordination, information management, reporting, and knowledge management functions within the United Nations Resident Coordinator’s Office (RCO) in Uganda.

The assignment will support the RCO in facilitating effective coordination across the United Nations Country Team (UNCT), strengthening RCO and inter-agency capacity on humanitarian and development information management, planning and reporting to inform strategic decision-making.

Based in Kampala, the UN Volunteer will work closely with colleagues in the office, across UN agencies, government counterparts, development partners and other stakeholders. The UN Volunteer will contribute to the data analytic and dissemination capacity of the RCO and the UN system-wide across the Cooperation Framework, joint programmes, partnerships and financing mechanisms, humanitarian and other development initiatives, The assignment will also support the production of analytical and communication products, strengthen knowledge management practices, and facilitate information sharing among UN entities and external partners.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Coordination support

Support and strengthen the overall coordination functions of the UN RCO.

Contribute to the preparation of background materials and analytical inputs for strategic discussions and engagement with partners.

Assist in preparation and documentation for meetings, events, field missions, visits by high-level delegations, policy dialogues and Cooperation Framework related engagements.

Support the tracking of action points, commitments, decisions and lessons arising from coordination mechanisms.

Any other assigned duties or tasks, as appropriate

Information Management, Reporting and Knowledge Management

Ensure availability of updated and quality data and information by collecting, analyzing and interpreting multiples datasets, identifying trends and patterns, create interactive dashboards (PowerBI, Tableau) and produce regular analytical reports

Design, develop, and maintain databases, digital information systems, and data collection frameworks

Collect, analyze and manage geographical data; develop maps, spatial data analyses, and infographics to highlight operational coverage and needs.

Support monitoring and evaluation processes of the United Nations such as annual reviews, joint steering committee and annual reporting by providing input to inform quality assurance for indicators, theories of change, and baseline/output metrics

Draft information products such as reports, charts and infographics to facilitate the dissemination of information to external stakeholders.

Contribute to the development and implementation of a dissemination plan for all information products

Communication and Knowledge Management support

Support the elaboration of communication and visibility products highlighting the impact of UN programmes and partnerships in Uganda.

Collaborate with the RCO Comms team to create knowledge products, such as documenting best practices, success stories, and infographics.

Assist or contribute to the production of information products such as situation overviews, snapshots, maps and briefing packs for internal and external use.

Support the organization, maintenance and continuous improvement of knowledge management systems and shared information platforms within the RCO.

Support internal knowledge-sharing across the UNCT and external partners, including through newsletters, briefs, and dedicated information-sharing platforms.

Maintain regular engagement with UN entities and partners to facilitate timely submission of information, reports and communication materials.

Contribute to the development of standardized templates, guidance materials and tools to strengthen information sharing and reporting practices.

This assignment is funded by the Government of the Republic of Ireland and therefore specific criteria apply

Candidates must be Irish citizens or a European Economic Area nationals with an unrestricted right to reside in Ireland or have a declaration of refugee status from the Minister for Justice and Law Reform.

Skills and experience

Demonstrated interest or experience in data management, database administration, GIS, or situation analysis, ideally within a humanitarian or development setting

Experience working with development and humanitarian data and information products

Proficiency in data visualization software (e.g., Microsoft PowerBI, Tableau).

Familiarity with mobile data collection platforms (KoBoToolbox, ODK).

Familiarity with coordination mechanisms

Knowledge of monitoring and evaluation practices

Experience working in multicultural environments

Previous experience as a volunteer and/or experience of another culture, (i.e. studies, volunteer work, internship) would be highly regarded.

Skills in

Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (pivot tables, complex formulas).

Knowledge of mapping software (ArcGIS, QGIS) is highly desirable.

Strong analytical and reporting skills

Solid computer literacy, including Microsoft Office applications
